Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2020 Collection: 10 Best Looks

True to Maria Grazia Chiuri‘s message in all her collections for Christian Dior, she stuck to her roots and delivered a strong female voice with an emphasis female empowerment. The tone was set before the show began as at the end of the runway, an impressive tapestry hung with the words “What if women ruled the world?” embroidered into the fabric. The collection drew inspiration from Grecian goddesses and roman empires, featuring motifs such as sandals, gold lamé and headpieces like the wreaths worn in Ancient Rome.

Chiuri engaged American feminist artist, Judy Chicago in the conceptualisation process whose sculptures highlighted maternal elements such as birth canals and wombs. “When Judy talked about this idea of goddesses, my mind immediately came back to my memories of the statues in Rome, of Botticelli,” Chiuri stated, “My point of view that is more Italian.” Hence, we see draping play a huge role in this haute collection, harking back to the loosely draped dresses that Greek goddesses wore.
