The Fall/Winter season often comes with a few staples such as boots, brogues and so on. However, this time in brisk and chilly New York, we observed an abundance of evening heels, open-toed slip-ons and floral motifs. All of which are quite out of the ordinary for a fall wardrobe. Rodarte’s strap-y heels encrusted with 3D flowers and silver brooches are likely to be favourites among brides while Tory Burch’s knee-high leather boots with embroidered flowers make are great for anyone dipping their toes into statement accessories.
Kitten heels are also making a huge comeback this season with brands like Marc Jacobs, Self Portrait and Jason Wu unveiling their own versions of this practical, office-friendly style. It’s wonderful to see the resurgence of this type of wearable heel as it is often associated with dowdiness and being “old-fashioned”. These new silhouettes that premiered on the New York Fashion Week runways are super chic and can be easily incorporated into any outfit.
The most interesting pair we spotted were heeled clogs from Proenza Schouler’s FW20 show, inspired by Geta (a traditional Japanese sandal worn by courtesans in the feudal period). Gorgeous colour-blocking and a cushiony strap modernises this traditional silhouette and the elevated planks have been swapped out for a modern heel. Not certain how comfortable a pair would be but it definitely makes for an effective conversation starter.
