Italian fashion house, Max Mara delivered tonal, sophisticated realness with its latest showing at Milan Fashion Week. Creative Director Ian Griffiths unveiled his fall/winter 2020 collection for Max Mara, imagining “a romantic journey across the seascape that begins in Morocco and goes north to Russia” for the career focused woman. Griffiths conjured a daydream in the hustle and bustle of an office space with it’s relaxed suiting and outerwear. The layered ruffles and puffed sleeves soften and creates an aura of feminism in traditionally utilitarian silhouettes.
On this journey, we see nautical elements woven into Moroccan ponchos as Griffiths plays with proportions that subvert the conventional roots of suiting. Swapping the usual leather for thick ropes as belts tie the seafaring theme together. Accompanying the oversized outerwear pieces were equally oversized bags that hit the sweet spot between structured and slouchy. Ideal for any getaways planned, if you fancy turning your daydreams into reality.
We end our voyage with Max Mara on a hopeful note with a pristine, white ensemble worn by the stunning Kaia Gerber. Sensual yet refined, the final look captures the freedom of dreaming as Gerber struts down the runway in a white oversized coat and nothing underneath.
