Anthony Vaccarello unveiled his Fall/Winter 2020 collection for luxury French maison, Saint Laurent on a spotlit runway in a dark room. Immediately, the clothes take centre stage as the saturated hues of red, violet and mustard yellow come alive against the darkened background. Known for his sexy designs, Vaccarello presented a different type of sexy, mixing tartans, latex and black lace. It’s refreshing to see Vaccarello’s take on colour for the Saint Laurent woman as he has a tendency to gravitate towards a darker colour palette.
When asked about his vision for the Fall/Winter 2020 collection, Vaccarello stated, “I wanted to find the balance between control and abandonment, the tension between discipline and pleasure that defines the modernity of Saint Laurent.” We can see this through the contrast of textures and styling combinations. Sharp blazers are thrown over skin-tight latex pants as pussy-bow blouses peek through the lapels. It is both strong yet sensual and feminine; A provocative take on the corporate uniform. When you see a woman wearing these looks, you know that she’s confident and in charge. “I was really stimulated by that tension this season, it made me want to break the codes that are too conventional,” Vaccarello explained, “Saint Laurent is about danger” And we couldn’t agree more.
