Margot Robbie Leads All-Female Pirates Of The Caribbean Remake

Harley Quinn, Tonya Harding, Queen Elizabeth I…. now Margot Robbie can add a pirate to her eclectic CV of characters.

You read that right. According to reports, the Academy Award nominee has been tapped to lead a female-led remake of The Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Over the weekend, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Robbie would be starring in a remake for Disney written by Birds Of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

The industry magazine says the new project, while currently under wraps, will likely not be a spin-off of the successful noughties franchise which starred Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann and Orlando Bloom as Elizabeth’s love interest Will Turner, but instead a new version with a new central story and characters.

The appetite for stories related to the long-running franchise is evident, with a separate Pirates of the Caribbean feature project also underway at Disney, separate to the Robbie-starring version.

No other details of who will be included in the cast have been announced yet but, just like the past few years, Robbie appears to have a busy schedule ahead of her.

Last year, proving her commitment to female-led projects, it was revealed that she would be teaming up with Greta Gerwig for the hugely-anticipated feminist Barbie film and has also been working on Marian – an alternate Robin Hood tale focusing on the woman at the centre of the classic folk story.

This follows Robbie’s jam-packed 2019 which saw her play Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In… Hollywoodan ambitious Fox news reporter who helps uncover sexual harassment at the highest level in the conservative newsroom in Bombshell and reprising Harley Quinn for her own spin-off Birds Of Prey.
