Katy Perry Admits She Contemplated Suicide Following Split From Orlando Bloom In 2017

Katy Perry has revealed that she considered taking her own life after she split from her boyfriend Orlando Bloom and poor album success.

The 35-year-old said that she hit rock bottom in both her personal and professional life in 2017, during an interview on the radio station SiriusXM CBC.

‘My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic,’ she said.

‘I had given so much out, and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be.’

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer continued, saying that she was excited about ‘flying high’ off her fifth studio album, Witness, but that the validation didn’t help her emotionally. ‘I just crashed,’ she said.

Speaking of the strength of her faith that things would get better, which helped her during this difficult time, she stated: ‘It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way.

‘And be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time.

‘Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life, because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped.

‘But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, “I am grateful, I am grateful!”; even though I am in a sh*tty mood.’

The Californian singer, who is expecting her first child with Bloom this summer, said that she is a better place to deal with her mental health issues.

‘My hope is that something bigger than me created me for a purpose and created me for a reason, and that I’m not disposable, and that every person that’s been created has a purpose.’

Last month, Perry opened up about the ‘waves of depression’ she’d experienced during the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Sometimes I don’t know what’s worse, trying to avoid the virus or the waves of depression that come with this new norm,’ the singer tweeted her fans.

Bloom and Perry first began dating in 2016 and went public with their romance at the Cannes Film Festival. They split a year later but got back together after a few months.

The Lord of The Rings star proposed to the singer on Valentine’s Day in 2019 with a flower-shaped ring and Perry announced that she was expecting their first child together in her ‘Never Worn White’ music video earlier this year.

Perry was previously married to actor Russell Brand and Bloom has one child from his marriage to supermodel Miranda Kerr.
