Popular South Korean actors, Goo Hye-Sun and Ahn Jae-Hyun have officially completed their divorce settlement and are now single. Their legal representatives delivered the following statement to local news outlets, “Ahn Jae-Hyun and Goo Hye-Sun agreed on their divorce settlement on 15 July 2020. They will each go on their separate paths, and will support each other’s futures. We are sorry to have troubled the public with their personal issues.”
The two stars made headlines last year when the Boy Over Flowers’ actress made their marital issues public via multiple Instagram posts that aired out the celebrity couple’s dirty laundry. The 35-year-old actress shocked fans when she openly accused Ahn of wanting a divorce in August 2019 which she was deeply against as her mother was in a poor health. “My husband who changed his mind about our marriage because he’s ‘bored of it’ wants a divorce, but I want to keep my family together,” Goo wrote in her Instagram caption.
Hours later, she then started exposing Ahn by posting screenshots of their private conversations on her Instagram page. In the text messages, it was revealed that Ahn was going to go the press to announce their plans to divorce. Goo was against going to the press at that time as she was concerned that the shock would exacerbate her mother’s condition. “Don’t do it next week. Do it once my mom is ready,” Goo texted. “It’s been agreed already. There’s only paperworks left,” Ahn replied, “I think there’s no point in seeing (your mother) now. I think I’ll push forward with it.”
Later on, Goo made several accusations of Ahn being a “neglectful” husband and even accused him of cheating because he had allegedly called multiple women whenever he was drunk. Ahn disputed this in his own Instagram post, saying that he had to address this publicly as he now felt like he had to clear his name and that Goo had “distorted” the story. It then became a mudslinging situation as Ahn went on to reveal his experience living with Goo, accusing her of being possessive and demanding so much so that he became depressed.
Their public back-and-forth became a huge trending topic in South Korea, as the two stars were a power couple in the eyes of fans. This led to the South Korean tabloid website, Dispatch to publish an exposé, releasing a year’s worth of private text conversations between Ahn and Goo, including their arguments.
It was messy.
After the tabloid blew up, the two stars took the advise of their legal representatives to settle the issue privately and in court. As of today, the chapter is finally closed. “Ahn Jae-Hyun wanted to finish the case quickly since he had such a difficult time,” his legal representative added, “He reached an agreement with Goo Hye-Sun during the mediation stage.”
Hopefully the two stars were able to put their differences aside and go their separate ways amicably. Ahn has yet to announce new activities since the completion of the 2019 drama, Love With Flaws while Goo is taking a break from the entertainment industry to study and focus on her writing career.
