Gucci's Epilogue Collection

Gucci’s fashion shows have always been highly anticipated, not just because of creative director Alessandro Michele‘s designs that have reinvented the house codes of the Italian luxury fashion house, but also for the artistic themes and presentation that the Italian designer never fails to deliver on. From the fire-y runways of their Cruise 2019 show to the giant rotating stage of the brand’s Fall/Winter 2020 show, Michele’s delivery of his collections never fails to go out of the box.

With the pandemic causing brands to rethink how seasonal collections are unveiled, Gucci has presented their latest collection digitally via an epic 12-hour livestream that started from 2pm, today. The Epilogue collection featured both menswear and womenswear looks that are rooted in Michele’s off-kilter vintage aesthetic. While most fashion brands have decided to edit down collections, Michele revealed an extensive catalog of 76 different looks for fans of the maison to enjoy.

The livestream also drew the curtain back on what a fashion campaign shoot looks like in the age of Coronavirus. The labour-heavy shoot, usually involving a large team of people has been tweaked to prioritise safe-distancing and Covid-19 measures such as stylists and photographers in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). The set, while simple, seems to transform into a sterile space where creatives experiment and adapt to the “new normal”.”Well, the collection, in short, is the end of the beginning of an experiment,” Michele explained, “It’s an attempt to use fashion as a space, in particular, as an experimental lab. And this is my experiment.”

It is important to note with Italy being one of the countries that was hit hard by Covid-19, to see models and creatives back at work does offer a sense of hope for the fashion industry.
