With masks now being the new normal for us, my lipsticks have been suffering on the way-side as I’m often opting to go makeup free on most days. As much I love the look of a bold lip, the thought of how dirty my mask will get sends chills down my spine. However, I do miss the instant brightening effect of a pop of colour. I have the tendency to look pale and washed out so, these days I’ve been turning to good old lip stains to give me that long-lasting colour without the hassle and mess of a lipstick.
These lip stains brought me back to the days when K-beauty started gaining legs in Singapore with road-shop brands such as Etude House and The Face Shop. Since then, the world of lip stains have certainly expanded to include a multitude of formulas that stain the lips, without drying them out.
For a simply makeup-look, I would just slap on these pigmented lip stains on the centre of my lips and blot off any excess product before wearing my mask and stepping out of the house. Easy, breezy and I don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day.
You can't go wrong with a classic. Benefit has been on the tint game for years and if their OG Benetint is not your favourite formula, you should definitely check out the brand's new iterations of their lip and cheek stain. Love Tint in particular is a fiery red hue that gets pretty darn opaque upon a few layerings. But my preferred way of wearing this one is a sheer layer on the centre of the lips and on the cheeks. The red hue works on any skin tone does give you that fresh-faced appearance.
In terms of tinting, this formula is more forgiving and leaves less of a stain in comparison to others in the market. Hence, it's great for beginners or even lazy girls like us, who prefer to just slap something on.
For anyone who prefers to go out bare-faced or simply hate the idea of wearing a mask on top of a full face of makeup, we completely get you. However, there are occasions where we just want to add a little something-something to our face in order to liven it up and give it some colour. This Hera lip tint in "Tender Rose" gives the most natural tint to the lips and comes in a glossy finish to hydrate too. It's great to throw into your purse and top up in between meals. You can also dab away the excess gloss before putting on your mask, leaving behind a soft nude pink tint.
A firm favourite of ours since its first launch, now we are even more obsessed as it's pretty much the perfect lippy for mask-wearing. This high-shine lip tint looks different on anyone though the colours you pick do show up on your lips. This shade in "21" is a deep cool toned red that does get deeper or lighter depending on the person wearing it as the formula reacts to your lips' pH levels.
However, don't underestimate its pigment. These Lip Chemistry Tints stain the lips really well, making it super long-lasting. Just a dab will do ya!
If the adorable pink packaging isn't enough to entice you, we're pretty sure the incredibly long-lasting formula will. This formula follows the traditional K-Beauty lip tint aesthetic, making it perfect for anyone likes that gradient lip look. This cherry red is an instant face-lift and looks great even with minimal to no makeup on. Also, when they say "tattoo" lip tint, don't take their word lightly. This 3CE formula leaves behind a vibrant tint that is long-wearing and lasts through drinking and eating.
For those who love a little bit of luxury to get you through these stressful times, YSL lippies never disappoint. Their Water Stain lippies are lightweight and absorb into the lips quickly, making it ideal for mask-wearers. We love layering this for a plump and juicy pout, or simply dabbing it on with fingertips for a softer look. This violet shade is great for those with a cooler skin tone and is super easy to use.
A brand new K-Beauty brand to be sold at our local Guardian, Romand has built quite a cult following around their aesthetically pleasing. lip products. This Matte Tint, in particular, is like photoshop for your lips. It glides over the wrinkles of your lips and blurs them, making your pout look plump despite being completely matte. Just a sheer layer and yet that set before putting on your mask and it delivers long-lasting colour the whole day.
Another one for all you matte lovers out there. This might be the time to bring out those matte liquid lipsticks that were all the rage in the 2010s, just like this one from Maybelline. The formula is thin and quick-drying, making it quite versatile. Dab a little with your fingertips for a light wash or apply a thin opaque layer for full colour payoff. The Super Stay Inks are completely transfer-proof and waterproof, making it an ideal mask companion for us.
