Apple’s third retail store in Singapore is set to open on September 10 (Thursday) and it’s going to be located on the iconic waterfront of Marina Bay, this is also the brand’s first store to be floating on water. Resembling a glass gem, this first-of-its-kind store is constructed to be fully self-supported with only 10 narrow vertical mullions consisting of 114 pieces of glass. Its unique glass structure also boasts an uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic view of Singapore’s amazing skyline.
The inspiration behind this exceptional architecture is the Pantheon of Rome, with an oculus atop the dome. The gap at the top allows light to permeate the store throughout the day while the interior of the glass is lined with custom baffles, which are shaped to counter glares from the sun and provide night-time lighting effect. There are also trees lined within the store to provide additional shading and soft shadows through the foliage.
Within the store is The Forum, a stage centred around a video wall, for Singapore’s musicians, creatives and creators to facilitate Today at Apple sessions like those held in Apple’s other outlets. As the fight against the pandemic is still carrying on, Apple Marina Bay Sands will be implementing strict health and safety measures — that means you have to pre-book a slot before coming down on the opening day on September 10 (Thursday).
