This season, Italian fashion label, Max Mara summarised the unveiling of their Spring/Summer 2021 collection with just three words — Rebirth, reconstruction and renaissance. With the world in a state of turbulence, it’s up to the strength of the people to rebuild a new way of life. Here, Max Mara imagines what the strong women who will rebuild this world wear. It’s a full circle moment for the Italian label which was founded in another time of rebirth, namely the postwar fashion boom. Then, they introduced new silhouettes that are practical, understated and rooted in good design.
Max Mara has implied the same concept here with a range of tailored suits, masterfully fitted trenchcoats, poplin shirts and sweaters with slashed sleeves that hang almost like a cape. It’s the wardrobe of the common heroes. The colour palette is subtle and comes in a range of powdery pastels, earth tones, pristine white and pitch black.
These structured pieces are then balanced out by lightweight nylon parkas (a staple in today’s modern wardrobe) and off-shoulder designs that add an air of femininity for the working woman. In this new era, women don’t have to sacrifice their femininity to be taken seriously, it’s instead, celebrated and highlighted.
