A really good home scent can do everything — From calming frazzled nerves to kickstarting yet another work (from home) day.
Below, we test and review some of the buzziest home fragrances right now.
MAISON 21G PARIS SLEEP HOME SCENT, $60
This “sleep” scent initially smelled strong and cologne-y when I first spritzed it around my bedroom, but it soon settled and diffused out into a rather calming lavender-based fragrance. I liked how the scent didn’t smell like watered-down lavender oil. Instead, you can expect an artfully crafted fragrance creation that’s grounded by powdery tonka bean. — Caroline Suganda
SANTA MARIA NOVELLA PROFMO PER AMBIENTE ASIA, $185
In this range of five scents that draw inspiration from the world’s largest continents, the 400-year-old apothecary looks to Japan for its “Asia” formulation. The top notes of lily of the valley and green tea are incredibly light on the nose, and although anchored by a woody, citrus base that brings to mind forest bathing or a journey on foot to a Shinto shrine, the soothing scent remains gentle on the senses, and is fitting for a quiet space meant for rest. — Andrea Sim
ACQUA DI PARMA PROFUMI DELL’ORTO CANDLE, $99
If you’re a fan of countryside serenity, this candle belongs in your room. With hints of aromatic herbs and crisp tomato leaves, this light yet energising scent is the olfactory equivalent of a stroll in a herb garden and the perfect fragrance to start your morning with. Place the cheerful yellow jar on your vanity — the fresh scent won’t overpower your senses (or the room), while the candle will add a pop of bright colour to your living space. — Koh Sok Hui
LOEWE TOMATO LEAVES SCENTED CANDLE, FROM $125
When it comes to the idea of a fresh scent, this Spanish brand went all out and came out with a whole line-up of vegetable-scented home scents. The range is created to evoke the raw green freshness of a home garden and simple acts like cutting up home-grown basil leaves to make pesto. This tomato leaves scent, in its rustic yet chic Loewe candle jar-pot holder, reminds us of tangy, juicy vine tomatoes and will have you craving a summer salad. — Chelsea Tang
JO MALONE LONDON WILD BLUEBELL SCENT SURROUND DIFFUSER, $155
This English brand introduces yet another scent from its classic range as a home fragrance, much to the delight of fans. In its diffuser form, Wild Bluebell is just a tad fresher than its cologne cousin, but retains the same light sweetness of bluebells. Reminiscent of a meadow in springtime drenched in morning dew, the delicate bouquet will enhance any interior. It’s a mellow yet refreshing scent that I’d love to wake up to every morning. — Jenine Oh
