Celine Encapsulates The Gen Z Aesthetic With Its Spring 2021 Show

Celine Spring/Summer 2021

Celine’s Spring/Summer 2021 show that happened last night solidified Hedi Slimane‘s vision for the luxury fashion house, which can ultimately be summed up in three words — cool, current and effortless. The show was held at a sports stadium in Monaco, transforming the tracks into a runway that complimented the collection’s more sporty aesthetic perfectly.

Here, we see the house fully embrace the Gen Z’s more laid-back approach to fashion and mixing it with Celine’s, more conservative, bourgeois chic house codes. High heels were swapped out for casual white sneakers, flat hiking boots and even a pair of fuzzy bedroom slippers. There is an intrinsic sense of nonchalance with each look that came down the track. Even traditionally more “dressed up” pieces such as a sequinned dress and oversized blazers were parred down with loose and sporty parkas or shorts. Each look felt very young and “real”, as if these models had just rocked up to the show wearing these exact pieces. Nothing feels overly “styled” or manufactured, which certainly speaks to how some of the top Gen Z influencers (think famous TikTokers like Charli and Dixie D’Amelio) consume fashion today.

And if the baseball caps, bucket hats and crop tops didn’t emphasise the TikTok generation of today enough, American rapper Princess Nokia‘s looped rendition of “I Like Him” thumping in the background will certainly do the trick. Check out every look from the show below.
