There will always be some cult fashion items which have stood the test of time but still hold the highly-sought-after status. One that exactly fits into this criterion is Mulberry’s iconic “Alexa” which is back in a 2020 re-launch to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary.
The 10-year-old bag’s inception and the name comes from Alexa Chung who loved to carry a vintage Mulberry briefcase around. Although no hand in designing Alexa, her frequently wearing the vintage bag inspired the designers at Mulberry to create this timeless classic, which is still as relevant and popular as it was ten years ago.
The re-launched satchel bag is even more refined in style with key sustainable changes. Like it is made with leather from the gold standard, environmentally accredited tanneries and is crafted at the brand’s carbon-neutral UK factories. The colours range from earthy neutrals (Charcoal, Chestnut, Chalk), to joyful neon shades (Neon Pink and Neon Yellow) and key hues from the signature Mulberry palette (Mulberry Green, Deep Amber and Black). As with the original Alexa collection, there are three sizes available, the classic silhouette complemented by Mini and bold Oversized styles.
Moreover, the original Alexa bag from Chung’s private collection will be featured in the upcoming V&A Museum exhibition Bags: Inside Out as part of the “It Bag” renaissance in curation that explores the unique cultural status of bags and their craftsmanship. With this kind of cult fashion status and with Christmas approaching, this launch could very well be a good gift or an investment to spoil yourself with!
