Miuccia Prada journeyed back to the flapper era of the 40s, complete with art deco carpets, perfectly coiffed hair, graphic eye makeup up looks and an exuberant colour palette. Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2020 show was an ode to the glamour and irreverence of the 40s. The Italian luxury fashion house is known for their unabashed use of colours and prints. More is certainly more in the house of Miu Miu. It’s clear that this vision holds true with this collection as clashing checks, fur leopard print coats and embellishments galore were all present in Mrs Prada’s latest offerings.
The show opened with Euphoria‘s Storm Reid in a copper gown and teal wool coat. The actress brandished a graphic cat eye and her braids in strewn in a classic up-do. She looked so wise beyond her years that we had to remind ourselves that Reid is but 16-years-old. The looks that followed featured voluminous puffed coats, knit sailor bodysuits and striking colours on modest silhouettes. The collection played to the youthful house codes of Miu Miu and sprinkled with the glamour of film noir. Along with the clothes are equally retro accessories such as thick leather belts, butterfly clasp clutches and structured shoulder bags. All with that 40s flair!
