Move over Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest. As a new playground for inspiration, but entertaining videos is here to take the crown: TikTok. Clocking in less than a minute, each DIY tutorial or OOTD video is educational, yet visually appealing when backed by cute voiceovers or dance moves. As the avenue for models, musicians, fashion influencers and YouTubers, this handy little app can ignite the creative spark in us when we’re too lazy to dress up or revamp our closets.
Here are our top five curated moments we found on TikTok:
Get artsy fartsy
Underneath all the dance challenges and makeup videos, who knew that you can unleash your own inner designer? Long before the circuit breaker launched, Singapore-based TikToker Nic Kaufmann has led the pack with his simple DIY method of recreating the Vetements look for less with fabric glue, scissors and two Uniqlo tees.
If you want something more edgy, you can try bleaching your jeans like fashion influencer Brittany Xavier. However, if you want pops of colour, you can try tie dyeing your old shirts. Whether it’s with food colouring or old packets of dye you never used, you can get the same effect of vibrantly lively hues that spark up your smile even when you’re feeling lonely in quarantine.
Now that you’ve binged Next In Fashion, you can be inspired by these videos to revamp your closet, but keep it earth-friendly.
Nowadays, it’s all about wearing everything on top. With jewelry and eyewear being the new footwear, all eyes are on you even when you want to wear something simple, yet stylish. If you’re working in a corporate environment while working from home, you can channel Tracee Ellis Ross’ monochromatic yellow for pops of joy during Zoom meetings.
But if you work in creative industries, look to model Larissa Schot or blogger turned designer Aimee Song. Schot’s video will give you a handy guide on how you can serve serious looks without being boring even as you transition from your video meeting to a live workout class from Instagram whereas Song’s clip will show you how you can wear pastels on all occasions (minus working out).
When you’re all bundled up with your partner, what other way can you express your love when you two have nowhere to go? Coordinate in matching outfits whether you’re all dressed up or down for group dance challenges.
If you want to show off your outfit without sacrificing some skin, look to Young Emperors for inspiration. The French New York-based couple are known for their matchy matchy outfits that are still playful, but conversative when you’re not dozing off for bed.
On the other hand, you can channel the Biebers for easy to copy loungewear that’s effortless, but equally stylish, too. However, this can only work if you’re living with your S.O.

Always In Activewear
Being completely isolated is not kind to our mental health, but grabbing a matching two piece set from your activewear closet is a reminder why together is always better. Although it hasn’t lost its primary function, wearing matching sets just looks more visually appealing when all you have is a rooftop or a closet as your background when making dance challenge videos. You can either channel blogger/designer Chiara Ferragni for a sweet, but sporty vibe or a sexy, but street aesthetic like YouTuber Emma Chamberlain.

#LoveMeLikeA OOTD Challenge
Most dance challenges aren’t made to showcase your OOTDs, but let RRILEY show you the way. As the Mariah Carey of our tiny little red dot, RRILEY’s higher than heaven voice accompanies dance-friendly beats of her latest self love single “Love Me Like A”. Since the snippet is 15 seconds long, you can show off as many outfits as you can when you try out this challenge.
