ELLE Singapore Team Test And Try Out 6 New Foundation Launches In 2020

A good foundation can make you feel like nothing could bring you down. Just like everything else in life, if the foundation is great, everything on top of that just falls into place. That cannot be any truer when it comes to makeup. Even during this time of quarantine, throwing on a base to even out the face instantly helps us feel “put together” and ready for any last minute Zoom calls that may pop up.

The ELLE Singapore team has looked at some of the most talked about new foundation releases so far and put them to the test. Note that this was done pre-circuit breaker so these bases had to last through a full day at the office. Check out our thoughts and findings below:

“For the girl on the go”

Benefit Cosmetics Hello Happy Air Stick Foundation, S$55, in 12 shades

Most stick foundations tend to have coverage that’s too heavy for me, so I was pleasantly surprised that this one applied sheer with a feather-light feel. The foundation is incredibly easy to use; I loved painting stripes on my skin, then blending it out — done in three minutes flat. Its sleek design also makes it easy to throw into my purse for quick touch-ups throughout the day. — Hanan Haddad

“For the one who likes minimal effort”

HERA Glow Lasting Foundation SPF 25/PA++, S$79, in 12 shades

I’ve always preferred cushion foundations simply because they are the most fuss-free to use. That said, this light liquid formula ensures little room for messes or mistakes, it blended evenly and seamlessly on my skin even with fingers. You pat it on and forget about it — the foundation lasted for 10 hours and still looked fresh at the end of the day. — Andrea Sim

“For the event-cruisin’ one”

Tom Ford Beauty Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation SPF 50/PA++++, S$200, in 7 Shades

While certainly not for those who live for the #iwokeuplikethis look, this full coverage foundation works when I need to attend formal meetings and events. Its texture is thick and creamy, yet it blends out evenly and smoothly on my skin without caking. — Caroline Suganda

“For the screen queen”

Givenchy Teint Couture City Balm Foundation, S$74, in 12 shades

Not many foundations have blue light protection like this one does, so it’s perfect for someone like me who is almost always glued to a screen. The foundation has a watery texture that blends and sinks into the skin almost instantly, for a light, radiant finish. It’s great for work and weekends— if you’re like me and like to hole up at home gaming during your free time. — Chelsea Tang

“For the busy bee”

Burberry Matte Glow Foundation, S$85, in 25 shades

This is a foundation that’s really longlasting; it survived on my oily skin through long work days that lasted into the night. It was surprising that a formula this high coverage didn’t clog my pores or oxidise throughout the day. True to its name, the foundation sets to a shine-free finish, and gave a gentle luminosity to the higher points of my face. — Jenine Oh

“For the no makeupmakeup one”

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Foundation SPF 30, S$89, in 10 shades

The super light texture of the foundation was what sold me on it. It spreads out really sheer on the skin, and was perfect for evening out any discolouration on my face but I could also build up the coverage to hide darker blemishes. The finish is slightly glowy too, which I love. — Katherine Ang
