In the famous words of Miranda Priestly, “Florals? For Spring? Revolutionary.” This time though, Clare Waight Keller has shown us all how revolutionary florals can be with her Spring 2020 Haute Couture collection for French luxury maison, Givenchy. Keller drew inspiration fr om the flower-laced gowns designed by Hubert de Givenchy for the iconic Audrey Hepburn and conjured a floral fantasy that reflects the fashion house’s signature aesthetic of clean lines, pristine tailoring an crisp edges. Pure white gowns covered in 3D florals floated down the runway, complete with massive halo-esque canopies, acting as head-pieces. We’re expecting that wedding gown piece for Keller’s finale look will be on the moodboards of many brides this year.
Keller also played with volume in her silhouettes, utilising tulle and ruffles to create deliberate patterns that mirror the petals of flowers in spring. With so many textures being presented, Keller has certainly delivered a feast for the eyes, carefully restrained for a truly sophisticated collection.
