Here’s How to Work Nicki Minaj’s Fendi Prints On Collection

While Nicki Minaj name-dropped a number of luxury brands in her hit 2018 single, ‘Chun-Li’, the line, “Bentley tints on, Fendi prints on” resonated the most with her listeners. Not just because of its a catchy hook, but also due to the prestige and glamour that’s associated with the fashion label, FENDI.

“I don’t think brands make me successful, but I do think that there are certain ones out there, like FENDI, that make women feel glamorous,” the 36-year old rapper tells ELLE in an exclusive interview

Fast forward one year, and the rapper, singer and songwriter has released her own collection with FENDI, appropriately titled — FENDI Prints On. Part of the next chapter in FENDI’s FF series, the collection features both mens and womens’ ready-to-wear and accessories. 

Minaj’s bold and playful influence are stylistically captured in this capsule collection, with the colourway centering around neon pink and metallic silver in a variety of silhouettes ranging from street style padded jackets to knitted bodycon dresses. Of course, the iconic FF logo all-over pattern is combined with metallic, shimmering surfaces and rich textures. 

The campaign (shot in LA by Steven Klein) features Minaj and her FENDI Prints On tribe posing poolside and exuding independent and powerful energy.

Let’s face it — cut-outs are always intimidating to wear, especially if it’s at a particularly unforgiving location (i.e. over the stomach). The short hemline of the dress makes the monotone edit not too overbearing and more ‘Barbie Chic’ than ‘Pink Power Ranger’.

The campaign video opens with Minaj standing at the edge of a spring board, hose in one hand wearing this iconic pink dress. The opening visual is powerful and makes a strong statement to what this whole collection is about — unapologetic, flamboyant and bold. Molly Chiang styles the Fendi Prints On viscose dress with the Fendi Prints On Lycra® Baguette in a different hue of pink. A neon yellow Nano Baguette Charm adds a pop of neon, breaking up the all-pink ensemble.

If the look is too pink for you, you can take inspiration from Hikari Mori who opted for a flash of metallic silver instead with the Fendi Prints On Peekaboo Iconic Mini and some strappy peep-toe heels.
