The nine-piece collection includes Kydra’s knotted crop top , the Saffron bra, and bicycle shorts—three new designs Saffron penned herself.
“We approached the collaboration with Saffron with comfort as our first priority,” says Jimmy Poh, one of the two founders behind Kydra. “The materials used as breathable and perfect for an [active] lifestyle.”
From head to toe, the knotted crop top is cast in Kydra’s ultra-soft jersey—essentially a mix of synthetic materials such as modal and spandex which are stretchy (great for movement) and doesn’t hog sweat. Likewise, the high-support Saffron bra comes in a nylon and spandex mix, while the high-waisted bicycle shorts is made of polyester and spandex.
“The sports bra is high-support and provides great performance without compromising on aesthetics that reflects [Saffron’s] unique personality,” says Poh. “Our highly functional bicycle shorts has in-built pockets that allow you to carry your mobile phones everywhere.”
Here, Saffron Sharpe’s take on the collaboration:
ELLE: When did this collaboration start?
Saffron Sharpe: Started at end of last year. It basically happened because I’m friends with their [team member] and I’ve always supported Kydra since it started, so we thought it would be amazing to do something together.
ELLE: So, you’ve been wearing Kydra for a while?
Saffron Sharpe: Yeah, I do! Actually about 1.5 years ago. Their bras are really dope and make my boobies look amazing!
ELLE: What did you use to wear before Kydra––and how did Kydra’s gear compare?
Saffron Sharpe: I usually wear Lululemon and Kydra. I would say Kydra’s way more affordable and I love their simple designs! They’re easy to move in! Sweat wise, they don’t itch my skin and it dries quite quickly.
Support wise…think it’s better than Lulu leh. Lulu’s cutting can be a bit off at times for me but it’s because their bras are smaller as well.
ELLE: So, Kydra’s bras are bigger?
Saffron Sharpe: Covers more of your breast.
ELLE: What do you usually do for your workouts?
Saffron Sharpe: Usually F45 and gym! Three times a week.
ELLE: Back to the Kydra collaboration, what was the process like?
Saffron Sharpe: Yeah, the process was:
1. Mood board
2. Overall vision––in terms of vibes and aesthetics
3. Coming up with the bra designs, drawing references
4. Kydra team handling the production––adjustments to fit and cut
5. Final product!
I wanted the pieces to be able to be worn outside of the gym. So, I thought of how the bra could be a fashion piece instead of just purely a workout bra––which is why I opted for thicker bands and a straight neckline, which looks closer to a top.
For the top, I wanted to show off the upper abs! So, I did top knot and made the cut slightly higher than usual so that girls are able to show more skin.
And bicycles shorts––because I love them!
ELLE: How many pieces are there altogether?
Saffron Sharpe: In total there are 9 pieces!
ELLE: How do the pieces fit? What are the sizes?
Saffron Sharpe: Bras in small, medium, and large. Tops range from extra small to extra large. Shorts range from extra small to extra large.
Saffron Sharpe: Crop top at S$32, bras at S$52, and shorts at S$62.
ELLE: When is the launch, and where can we buy them?
