When it comes to luxury purchases, there’s no doubt in our minds that for the current moment at least, the world is look at utility and longevity. Whether your buying a bag, a shoe, a bracelet or a scarf if we’re keying in a CVV number that item damn well better be giving us bang for the buck and then some. But buying a great designer piece shouldn’t be all dollars and sense too, it’s not algebra after-all.
Speaking of arithmetic, the equation to this Fendi capsule collection’s is easy like 1,2,3 or ABC. In my mind that stands for “Always”, “Be”, “Chic” and with pieces like these, it’s almost impossible not to be.
1… Eternal colourways
While workmanship is a given and functionality can be so, so subjective (you mean you don’t leave the house with just a lipstick in a micro bag?) The one thing we can all agree on is the importance of colour choice. Neutrals will never go out of style.. ever.
Yes, you must be thinking no sh*t sherlock, a black bag is classic… duh. So why not give chocolate brown a chance? Fendi’s Zucca is iconic. And the alternating earthy hues that make up the “FF” logo have come to stand for luxury. They give you this air of understand Italian luxury with the elegance of an Italian film and honey nothing, nothing is chicer or more eternal than a Federico Fellini Film. 2… A balance between longevity and nowness
What exactly is a “classic”, anyway? No, really. Every season we christen a new “It” bag or a new “Forever” shoe and if I’m being quite honest they rarely ever hold onto that crown for long. Furthermore items that are super timeless very often run the risk of looking just downright boring. I say, don’t go chasing waterfalls.
Instead pick something that doesn’t feel outlandish to you and don’t feel pressured to invest just because it’s been called a classic. You have to love it. And then you’ll actually use it and gradually it becomes a signature of your lewk. Just ask Carrie Bradshaw! Some 20-something years later since that fateful Sex and The City episode aired, trust us when we say It’s still not a bag, it’s a baguette!”

3… An emotional connection
After all is said and done, a designer item will never be a rational purchase. There, I said it. But that’s part of the thrill of shopping. If the thing you added to cart doesn’t quite spark joy (are we over that phase yet) and doesn’t make you just a little bit giddy, forgetaboutit. If you’re not a getting a rush of endorphins now, you probably never will from that purchase.
Case in point, the Colibri pumps, it’s definitely not a classic in the traditional sense of the word but I truly am not exaggerating when I say I have friends who sent pictures of it when it debuted in 2018, who then proceeded to buy them, love them and still wear them, 2 years on. It’s probably what Renee Olstead meant when she sang “A Love That Will Last”.
