A joyride is defined as a ride for pure enjoyment in a vehicle. What if we told you that you can now take joyrides any time you want, whenever you want?
The Nike Joyride sneaker is the latest design to be launched by the brand. It was birthed from a common request from runners: to reduce stress from running on hard surfaces. Almost 10 years of engineering and tests later, the Joyride cushioning system was created.
This Nike-only, proprietary cushioning system is made of over 8,000 TPE beads (a copolymer of plastic and rubber) and is said to mimic the sensation of running on bubbles.
These beads are spread out proportionately in four zonally-tuned pods at the base of the sneaker which allows the foam to expand in all directions. This creates a dynamic footbed which forms to the individual’s foot, making it personalised for each person. It’s like a memory foam for your feet!
The first design in the series is the Nike Joyride Run Flyknit. It is designed to be suited for every runner — from the seasoned marathoner to the novice who’s looking to live a healthier lifestyle.
The sneaker is already a hit with professional distance runners like Craig Engels of the Nike Oregon Project. “Oh my gosh, there’s so much cushion in them … it feels like you’re on a cloud. Super comfy! And the fit is perfect. I’ll definitely use these for recovery runs … they’re easy on my legs and feel great on my feet”.
In particular, the Nike Joyride NSW Optik was designed specifically for women. It boasts a sleek lace-less upper and a leather heel and collar melds with a moulded skin on the upper for a playful mix of traditional craft and modern detailing.
If you’re worried about the environmental impact of the shoe, fret not! Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program ensures that the Joyride can be recycled and transformed into new products.
The Nike Joyride Run Flyknit is available to Nike Members from July 25. A global release follows on August 15 in stores and on Nike.com.sg at SGD249.
