Sustainability and green fashion have been gaining traction in recent years. Carbon neutral fashion shows have been dominating fashion week, existing brands are pledging ethical production practices and new brands are already hopping on the sustainability train — this is one trend that we are fully on board for.
Hong Kong-based clothing brand, Tove & Libra is no exception. The founders, Christine Chow and Ivan Tang never formerly studied fashion but were brought together by their mutual passion for a more conscious approach to fashion consumption.
And so, in October 2018 Tove & Libra was born.
Though they are new to the scene, their families are firmly rooted in the clothing business, manufacturing fabrics and apparel for various fashion brands. “A lot of major brands put more emphasis in product marketing than product quality. Because we have that authentic expertise and knowledge, we wanted to do the reverse and put the focus back onto the products,” Chow shares.
Their aim is simple and clear-cut: quality over quantity. This vision has led them to release capsule collections of simple yet effortlessly chic essentials that mix and match easily with any piece, making it better for your wardrobe (yes), wallet (oh yes) and the planet (major yes).
They place strong emphasis on 3 key principles — authenticity, sustainability, and functionality. Making use of deadstock and repurposing fabrics ensures that minimal waste is generated. And it doesn’t stop at fabrics. Their FW19 collection features vintage beads and trims including buttons that embellish their Oversized Knitted Blazer.
Since launching in 2018, the brand has placed strong emphasis on creating real styles for real people. They have collaborated with the likes of Angie Lau, former lead anchor for Bloomberg Asia and Haley Meng, founder of West-East Club in Hong Kong and swing dance aficionado. These power women have appeared in Tove & Libra’s seasonal campaigns, promoting diversity and displaying the versatility of their pieces.
Another major appeal to Tove & Libra’s pieces is the fact that they don’t ride the trend wave, ensuring that every piece that’s being put out is seasonless and wearable all year round. Their capsule collections are kept small to streamline the wardrobe and narrow down fits that work well for everyone.
Their latest FW19 collection features staples that last such as knitted sweaters, comfy Tencel jumpsuits and easy to throw on dresses.
