6 Lunar New Year Collections to Look out for This Season

These brands usher in the Year of the Dragon in auspicious style.

1. MIU MIU:  UPCYCLED COLLECTION

The New Year’s is all about family, history and tradition; and Miu Miu’s collection tells the story of clothes and people who have worn them in the past with a wide variety of staples like polo shirts, cardigans, and the iconic Wander and Arcadie bags – in prosperous and vibrant red.

Showcasing the precious nature of vintage clothing, – their  Lunar New Year collection accompanies their fourth limited edition Upcycled collection. Using upcycled jeans of the pre-2000’s, the brand focuses on reiteration of wardrobe archetypes—from wide-legged jeans and trucker jackets, to bra tops and shorts. 

Smaller pieces like baseball caps and hair bands were also designed to re-use as much fabric as possible.

In the spirit welcoming spring, embellishments of flower embroideries of black beads and crystal topped the collection’s offerings – giving the pieces a limited exclusive feel due to its repurposed nature.

2. GUCCI: DECKED OUT IN DRAGON

As the Year of the Dragon draws near, it’s no doubt the zodiac animal would be a motif to look out for. Capturing the essence of the festive season, actress Tian Xiwei depicts intimate portraits with a selection of ready-to-wear pieces, handbags, shoes and accessories designed to honour the zodiac animal.

The House flaunts the Dragon in pieces like vibrant trainers and handbags, with accents of red in their eyewear and jewellery pieces. Every item in the collection showcases the house’s craftsmanship – and adding a touch of style into your Lunar New Year ensemble.

The Dionysus bag consists of red accents on straps and handles, oriental cloud motifs and two dragons at the centre – intertwined to form the logo we know and love.

3. POLO RALPH LAUREN: FESTIVE CLASSICS

Polo Ralph Lauren updates their classics such as polo shirts, cable-knit cardigans, jumpers and hoodies this New Year, with reiterations of their staples in lucky red. 

An easy-to-wear piece with a touch of tradition is the Lunar New Year Classic Fit Overshirt, a garment-dyed shirt that comes with frog closures. The top is a perfect addition to your wardrobe if you’re looking for a fun yet formal option for visitations, all while looking festive.

Across the collection, the quirky go-to option is the auspicious rendition of an iconic motif: the Polo Bear brandishing a fistful of red packets. With the generous selection of colours and style, keep yourself cosy while visiting relatives in over-air-conditioned homes with these chunky-knit sweaters or mini-cable cotton cardigans.

4. BURBERRY:  THE CLASSIC FAVOURITES IN RED

This season, Burberry embraces their classics in a prosperous style. To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, members of Burberry’s global community – including brand ambassadors Tang Wei and Chen Kun – explore the streets of Chengdu in their Lunar New Year 2023 collection.

The collection includes the brand’s iconic British wardrobe: the houndstooth check, a seasonal rose print and a vibrant red. Deck yourself with the season’s best—a deep red in classic checks, along with new eyewear styles. 

5. BOTTEGA VENETA: CELEBRATING LOVE 

The First Sunrise with You Directed by Jess Jing Zou

Bottega Veneta’s Lunar New Year campaign, The First Sunrise with You celebrates the first sunrise of the year, showing different characters welcoming the dawn in a variety of panoramic settings –  starring actress Shu Qi. Centering on the singular moment of the new year’s dawn, the campaign carries themes of travel and togetherness– ushering a new year with loved ones and a yearning to create new memories.

The collection is themed around the Year of the Dragon and had accessories that highlight prosperous colour selections. Dragons scales and motif were a common detail in the collection, as seen in their jewellery selection As for their footwear, the mesh on the Orbit sneakers resemble closely scales of a dragon.

A dragon-tail handle, melded with the Bottega's distinctive leather weaving design, the Intrecciato, adds an auspicious touch to the Sardine – one of the brand’s iconic looks.

6. PRADA: CINEMATIC PORTRAITS

Last but definitely not the least, Prada launches their Lunar New Year campaign’s images, imbued with a deep colour palette and inspired by iconic Chinese films. The series of cinematic and touching portraits were brought together by fashion and art photographer Leslie Zhang and musician and producer Linfeng, whose music draws inspiration from the celebratory beats of traditional Chinese instruments.

The brand’s simplicity and sleek style in its selection is a fresh take for those who seek an elegant yet sophisticated style for their New Year’s look. Set in the historic Prada Rong Zhai residence and accompanied by soft hues—the campaign captures the spirit of homecoming and the blissful sense of familiarity that we seek during the festive season.
